Earth's shadow transforms the moon into a glowing red orb

Captured during the total lunar eclipse of May 2022, this image shows the moon bathed in Earth's shadow. The deep red color occurs when Earth's atmosphere filters and refracts sunlight, allowing only the longer red wavelengths to reach the moon's surface. This celestial event lasted over 5 hours from start to finish.
